In this guide, we show you how to get your baby carriage chain back into shape by shortening or lengthening the strap.
You will find a short explanatory video below. You’ve just bought your dream necklace in the baby store and can hardly wait to hang it on the baby carriage to see how it looks.
The little figures all look golden and the color scheme of the chain matches the colors of your baby carriage perfectly.
Everything would be perfect if only the chain didn’t sag so much and leave so many empty spaces between the beads and figures strung on the chain cord.
This could be because the elastic has too little tension. Crocheted baby carriage chains from SindiBaba are made in such a way that you can use them with a wide range of baby carriages, Maxicosis, cribs and play arches/playgyms of different sizes.
In addition, some space has been left on the elastic band in case you want to personalize the pram chain with the name of your loved one(s).
So if your baby carriage chain is sagging, this is probably not because the elastic is worn out, but because the chain is simply too long for your baby carriage model in its current setting.
In addition, depending on the model, the sets of figures of the crocheted or stuffed animals strung on the baby carriage chain are of different sizes and weights, so that they sag more with one animal motif than with another.
We will demonstrate this here using two examples:
Example of a baby carriage chain that is too long
Our crocheted JUMBO elephant baby carriage chain in pink, for example, has relatively large and therefore heavy figures.
This causes the chain to sag more than a baby carriage chain with lighter soft toys.

Example of an ideal baby carriage chain
In this model, our crocheted baby carriage chain sloth SLEEPY in gray, the figures are slightly smaller.
They are therefore less heavy and the “rubber” does not sag as much.
Solution & instructions
So what can you do to shape the elephant chain in the same way as the sloth chain?
To tighten your baby carriage chain, you need to shorten its effective length to put more tension on the “rubber”, which will make it sag less.
You can achieve this by moving the knots at both ends of the elastic more towards the middle.
We demonstrate this in this video for one end of the chain:
If you repeat this for the other end, you can shorten your pram chain by a further 2 to 2.5 cm, i.e. by a total of 4 to 5 cm.
You can shorten it even further with double knots.
This allows you to shorten the baby carriage chain by a total of 8 to 10 cm.
Your chain should then “fit”.
And the whole thing also has a nice side effect: by shortening the elastic band, the empty spaces between the beads and figures also disappear, making the baby carriage chain look more aesthetically pleasing.
